Posting Type Remote/Hybrid Job Overview As a Software Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading a high-performing software engineering team dedicated to delivering innovative, reliable, and scalable solutions that align with our business objectives. This position emphasizes a unique blend of software engineering expertise, technical leadership, operational readiness, and people management, all while nurturing a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to steer strategic initiatives and mentor engineers towards their career aspirations. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Infrastructure Services, this is a remote position; however, candidates located near our downtown Chicago IL office will be given preference. Key Responsibilities: Attract, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent, fostering an inclusive and high-performance culture. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and career development strategies. Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team. Lead the team in embracing and enhancing agile development methods, driving iterative delivery and cross-functional collaboration. Ensure projects are delivered on time with high quality while adhering to service level agreements (SLAs) and service level objectives (SLOs). Promote the adoption of automation-first strategies such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Infrastructure as Code, and Policy as Code. Oversee incident response and root cause analysis; champion a blameless postmortem culture to implement systemic improvements. Work alongside architects and senior engineers to establish technical standards and reliability frameworks. Guarantee compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory measures through automated controls. Collaborate with Product Management to ensure engineering priorities are in line with business goals. Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding progress, risks, and trade-offs. Monitor and report on essential team metrics like velocity, quality, reliability, and cost efficiency. Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and improvements in operational readiness. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 5 to 7 years in systems engineering or infrastructure roles, including over 3 years in leadership positions. Demonstrated ability to lead teams and successfully manage complex technical projects. In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), CI/CD processes, and observability. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/ARM) and Policy as Code (OPA, Azure Policy). Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management capabilities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in high-availability Software as a Service (SaaS) environments. Familiarity with performance engineering, cost optimization, and Financial Operations (FinOps) practices. Relevant certifications in cloud technologies or leadership development. This position offers a total compensation package that includes a competitive base salary, an annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives. The expected salary range for this role is between $155,000 and $233,000. Final offered salary will consider several factors, including depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the higher end of the range is not typical, allowing for meaningful salary growth within this position.
