Position Summary

Podiatry Medical assistant to float between our Westerly and Wakefield offices

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Podiatry Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The Medical Assistant will support the podiatrist in delivering high-quality foot and ankle care by assisting with clinical procedures, patient preparation, and administrative duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for podiatric exams and procedures.
  • Assist the podiatrist with treatments, including nail and skin care, wound care, casting, orthotic fittings, and minor in-office surgical procedures.
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
  • Set up and sterilize instruments, equipment, and exam rooms.
  • Apply and remove dressings, padding, splints, and bandages as directed.
  • Administer medications or injections as permitted by state law and physician direction.
  • Educate patients on foot and ankle care, wound care instructions, orthotic use, and post-procedure recovery.

Administrative Duties:

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage follow-up care.
  • Verify insurance and obtain prior authorizations when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the EMR system.
  • Handle patient inquiries, prescription refills, and documentation requests.
  • Ensure exam rooms and supplies are adequately stocked.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in podiatry, orthopedics, or a related specialty preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile techniques, and general clinical practices.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and able to provide excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods.
  • Lift or move up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Fine motor skills for assisting with procedures and handling instruments.

Schedule:

  • Mondays & Fridays – Wakefield office
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays – Westerly office
  • Wednesdays – Alternates between Wakefield and Westerly offices
