Position Summary
Podiatry Medical assistant to float between our Westerly and Wakefield offices
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Podiatry Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The Medical Assistant will support the podiatrist in delivering high-quality foot and ankle care by assisting with clinical procedures, patient preparation, and administrative duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare patients for podiatric exams and procedures.
- Assist the podiatrist with treatments, including nail and skin care, wound care, casting, orthotic fittings, and minor in-office surgical procedures.
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
- Set up and sterilize instruments, equipment, and exam rooms.
- Apply and remove dressings, padding, splints, and bandages as directed.
- Administer medications or injections as permitted by state law and physician direction.
- Educate patients on foot and ankle care, wound care instructions, orthotic use, and post-procedure recovery.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments and manage follow-up care.
- Verify insurance and obtain prior authorizations when needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the EMR system.
- Handle patient inquiries, prescription refills, and documentation requests.
- Ensure exam rooms and supplies are adequately stocked.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
- Previous experience in podiatry, orthopedics, or a related specialty preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile techniques, and general clinical practices.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Compassionate, patient-focused, and able to provide excellent customer service.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods.
- Lift or move up to 25 lbs as needed.
- Fine motor skills for assisting with procedures and handling instruments.
Schedule:
- Mondays & Fridays – Wakefield office
- Tuesdays & Thursdays – Westerly office
- Wednesdays – Alternates between Wakefield and Westerly offices
