Position Overview
A well-established power systems company specializing in residential and commercial backup generator solutions is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead day-to-day operations and drive continued growth. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business, including operations, sales, service, financial performance, and team leadership.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational discipline, customer-focused decision-making, and experience managing field service–based businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee daily operations across installation, service, maintenance, and emergency response teams
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high quality and safety standards
- Optimize scheduling, inventory, fleet usage, and vendor relationships
- Maintain compliance with local codes, permits, and industry regulations
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop managers, technicians, and administrative staff
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across departments
- Recruit, onboard, and retain top operational and technical talent
- Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and customer service excellence
Sales & Business Development
- Collaborate with sales leadership to drive revenue growth and margin improvement
- Oversee pricing strategy, quoting accuracy, and contract execution
- Build relationships with builders, property managers, and commercial clients
- Identify new market opportunities and service offerings
Financial Management
- Own full P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
- Monitor KPIs related to revenue, margins, service efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- Improve operational efficiency to support scalable growth
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and internal controls
Customer Experience
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business
- Resolve escalated customer issues with professionalism and urgency
- Ensure service standards meet or exceed company expectations
Qualifications
- 7+ years of leadership experience in operations or general management
- Experience in generators, electrical contracting, HVAC, construction services, or a related field strongly preferred
- Proven success managing field service or installation-based businesses
- Strong financial acumen with P&L ownership experience
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational execution
Preferred Experience
- Backup generator sales, installation, or maintenance operations
- Managing multi-department teams (sales, service, operations, admin)
- Operating in storm-prone or emergency-response environments
- Experience with growth, process improvement, or operational turnaround initiatives
