DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assesses dental condition and patient needs using patient screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal charting. Takes patient vital signs as required.
· Documents dental history and/or chief complaints.
· Records and reports pertinent observations and patient relations as appropriate.
· Under the supervision of a qualified Dentist, develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients.
· Provides patient and family education.
· Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygiene procedures, such as debridement, prophy, scaling and root planning, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, and related procedures.
· Identifies high-risk patients and recognizes emergencies.
· Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse reactions during treatment of patients.
· Performs reasonable administrative and other responsibilities assigned by Siskiyou Community Health Center.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or equivalent is required.
· Graduation from an accredited Dental Hygiene School and current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Oregon.
· Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Current CPR and First Aid certification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
· Ability to work as a team and work independently.
· Knowledge of Federal and State regulations and guidelines for the provision of care to dental patients.
· Knowledge of patient screening, charting, and medical history procedures and documentation.
· Ability to perform a full range of established dental hygiene services and procedures.
· Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 25 pounds.
· Bending, reaching, and sitting.
· Vision and hearing corrected to within normal range.
· Physical mobility within clinic.
· Moderate physical activity.
· Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours at a time.
HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS:
· Exposure to blood and body fluids.
· Exposure to infectious diseases and airborne pathogens.
· Contact with sharp and contaminated instruments and needles.
· Contact with patients and occasional rude and/or angry encounters.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Position is 95% clinic-based and 5% off-site.
· Occasional dental events in the community.
· Occasional evening or weekend work required.
· Periodic state and national travel.
MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, and SUPPLIES USED:
· Computer, printer, calculator, fax machine, copier, multi-line phone system, and/or cellular phone.
· Dental instruments and equipment, needles, and dental, surgical, and other dental laboratory instruments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,600.00 - $104,000.00 per year
