Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated IDD Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will assist residents with daily activities, promote independence, and ensure a safe and nurturing environment. This role involves working closely with individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based programs. The position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those served while fostering a supportive and respectful atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
  • Provide medication administration and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations
  • Support residents during meal preparation, cooking, and feeding to promote nutritional health
  • Implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident's needs, including dementia, Alzheimer's, autism, or other developmental disabilities
  • Utilize proper techniques such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts to ensure safe transfers and mobility assistance
  • Observe and document patient behavior, health status, and progress through patient monitoring and record keeping
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties as required in home or community care settings
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies by executing CPR or first aid procedures when necessary
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks to ensure a comfortable living environment
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to coordinate care effectively

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or home health care is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques including Alzheimer's care, dementia care, hospice care, and memory care
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred; ongoing training will be provided if necessary
  • Experience with medication administration and vital signs monitoring is advantageous
  • Ability to work compassionately with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges such as autism or mental health conditions
  • Strong communication skills and patience are essential for working effectively with residents and team members
  • Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and assist residents using equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information
  • Valid driver's license may be preferred for community-based support roles
