– Barclays (Hybrid role covering Enterprise/Solution Architect, Software Engineer, Delivery Manager within Quant Model Development)
Design, deliver, and govern QA software and technology solutions that align with enterprise architecture principles, meet business objectives, and ensure scalability, security, and maintainability. This role bridges strategic architecture with engineering and technical delivery, ensuring that technical solutions are fit‑for‑purpose, cost‑effective, and aligned with organizational standards and long‑term technology roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Design & Architecture: Define and document end‑to‑end solution architectures that meet functional and non‑functional requirements, driving QA Software Product strategy.
Enterprise Alignment & Governance: Maintain architecture frameworks, enforce standards, and ensure interoperability across systems.
Technical Delivery & Engineering: Collaborate with QA development and Infrastructure teams, and with Technology to provide technical guidance, and drive automation and use of AI in CI/CD practices.
Stakeholder Management & Prioritization: Manage stakeholder expectations within QA and Technology to balance short‑term delivery with long‑term integrity.
Quality & Risk Management: Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, and resilience targets while mitigating technical risks.
Training: Establish colleague training on systems engineering and architecture.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks.
Proficiency in software engineering principles and cloud‑native architectures.
Experience with Agile delivery and technical product ownership.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills – to explain the big picture.
Tenacity and perseverance to negotiate and influence multiple stakeholders, holding people accountable to agreed standards.
Experience
Proven track record in solution architecture and enterprise architecture roles.
Hands‑on experience in software engineering and technical leadership.
Familiarity with governance processes and technology roadmaps.
Building highly scalable end‑to‑end systems of financial models and calculations and their integration with Technology platforms.
Purpose of the role To design, develop, implement, and support mathematical, statistical, and machine‑learning models and analytics used in business decision‑making.
Accountabilities
Design analytics and modelling solutions to complex business problems using domain expertise.
Collaboration with technology to specify any dependencies required for analytical solutions, such as data, development environments and tools.
Development of high performing, comprehensively documented analytics and modelling solutions, demonstrating their efficacy to business users and independent validation teams.
Implementation of analytics and models in accurate, stable, well‑tested software and work with technology to operationalise them.
Provision of ongoing support for the continued effectiveness of analytics and modelling solutions to users.
Demonstrate conformance to all Barclays Enterprise Risk Management Policies, particularly Model Risk Policy.
Ensure all development activities are undertaken within the defined control environment.
Director Expectations
Manage a business function, providing significant input to function‑wide strategic initiatives and influencing policy and procedures.
Lead large teams or sub‑functions, embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business.
Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions outside own function.
Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub‑function.
Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
Foster and guide compliance, ensuring regulations are observed and relevant processes are in place.
Engage regulators, advocacy groups and others to monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline, with insight into external market developments.
Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve complex or sensitive situations.
Exercise management authority to make significant strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior level both internally and externally.
Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/divisions.
Serve as spokesperson for the function and business division.
