Summary Are you an experienced Civil Engineer passionate about the energy sector? Freedom Professional Services seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead the civil design of electricity substations across the UK, collaborating with internal teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the production and review of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports for various civil works (masonry buildings, steel portal frames, transformer bunds, drainage systems, roads), on projects ranging in value from £100k to £20m.
Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure effective project delivery, providing updates and identifying risks to programme, quality or cost.
Attend progress meetings at client/contractor offices or construction sites as required.
Attend design team meetings to ensure timely release of quality information aligned with scope of works.
Manage design risks to deliver buildable solutions.
Provide engineering solutions to site‑based problems through TQ/RFI process.
Mentor junior team members, provide technical guidance and promote professional development.
Take responsibility for own professional development in line with best practice, legislative changes, and customer requirements.
Required Attributes
Proven experience in a design environment for construction of traditional masonry buildings, steel portal frames, and reinforced concrete.
Experience in client‑facing roles with strong client relationship management.
Ability to lead multiple simultaneous technical projects in a challenging environment.
Strong communication skills for technical discussions with colleagues, staff, and clients.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
Degree in Civil Engineering (or related subject) and working toward Chartered or Incorporated status (e.g., ICE).
Desirable
Experience in electricity distribution sector, especially substation design and electrical infrastructure.
Practical experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Civils3D for civil engineering design.
Full UK driving licence.
