Location: Zürich, Switzerland

Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Photonic Application Engineer to join our team and become a pivotal link between our customers and our R&D teams. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and guidance throughout the development of advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs), ensuring that customer needs are met and their expectations are exceeded.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Central Role: Act as a key liaison between our R&D teams and customers, facilitating effective communication and collaboration to ensure project success.
  2. Customer Relationship: Serve as the primary technical contact for customers, understanding their specific needs and providing expert guidance on PIC design and layout.
  3. Design Support: Assist customers with designing and laying out their PICs, offering insights to optimize performance and ensure compatibility with our PDK, design rules, and characterization and packaging standards. Perform thorough design rules checks (DRC) to ensure designs meet all required specifications.
  4. Production Updates: Provide customers with timely updates on the status of their PICs throughout the production process, addressing concerns and providing necessary information.
  5. Technical Expertise: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in integrated photonics and apply this knowledge to support customers effectively.
  6. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and technical support provided, ensuring accurate documentation.
What You’ll Bring:
  1. Educational Background: PhD or Master’s degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Experience: At least 3 years of experience in integrated photonics design (e.g., SiP, SiN, InP, TFLN), with a strong emphasis on customer interaction and support. Experience with thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) is a strong advantage.
  3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in PIC design and EDA software (e.g., Luceda IPKISS, Synopsys, Nazca), with extensive experience in design rules checks (DRC). Strong knowledge of various PIC systems, including telecom, quantum, and sensing applications. Experience with PDKs and testing and electro-optics packaging requirements.
  4. Customer-Centric: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to understand and address customer needs.
  5. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to solving technical challenges.
  6. Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in the face of change.
  7. Language Skills: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of German or French is an advantage.
What We Offer:
  1. A unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a cutting-edge initiative in the rapidly growing field of photonics.
  2. A collaborative and innovative work environment where your contributions will influence the future of telecommunications and beyond.
  3. Competitive compensation and benefits package, including an employee stock option plan (ESOP), reflective of your experience and expertise.
  4. The chance to be a key player in an early-phase startup, joining a motivated and energetic team with opportunities to grow and develop your professional skills.
