Job Description
Desktop Support Technician Job Description: The Desktop Support Technician will play a critical role in supporting and maintaining the organization’s computer systems, desktops, and peripherals within a healthcare environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance, while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The technician will troubleshoot problems remotely and in person, providing efficient and accurate support to end users, and ensuring that all technology solutions meet the unique needs of the healthcare setting. Responsibilities: Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop problems for end users in a healthcare environment, implementing corrective solutions, including off-site repairs for remote users. Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user hardware, peripheral devices, printing/scanning devices, presentation equipment, software, and other products to ensure required desktop service levels within healthcare systems. Build, install, and test customized configurations for healthcare platforms and operating systems, ensuring compatibility with medical software and systems. Collaborate with the Technology team to ensure the efficient operation of the organization’s desktop computing environment, while ensuring adherence to healthcare compliance and data privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA). Administer and resolve issues with network software products and systems associated with end-user workstations, including clinical and administrative applications. Receive and respond promptly to incoming calls, pages, and/or work orders related to desktop issues, especially in urgent healthcare settings. Ensure that desktop connections (i.e., network jacks) and related systems are functioning properly, particularly for critical healthcare operations. Prepare tests and applications to monitor desktop performance and provide performance statistics and reports in a healthcare setting. Liaise with third-party support teams, PC equipment vendors, and healthcare-specific vendors when necessary. Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position, ensuring minimal disruption to healthcare services. Skills and Qualifications: Proven experience in desktop support and troubleshooting, preferably in a healthcare environment. Strong knowledge of desktop operating systems, hardware, and peripheral devices, with an understanding of healthcare applications and systems. Familiarity with healthcare-specific software and systems (e.g., Electronic Health Records, Medical Imaging systems). Ability to configure and maintain desktop environments and networks in a regulated healthcare setting. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues in fast-paced environments. Excellent communication skills to provide clear support to healthcare professionals and collaborate with internal teams. Knowledge of healthcare compliance and data privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA). Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, particularly during critical healthcare operations. Working Conditions: Full-time position with on-site and occasional remote support duties. Must be able to work within a healthcare environment and follow protocols to ensure system security and patient confidentiality. May require occasional travel to remote healthcare facilities for off-site repairs and support.
