Summary / Responsibilities The Senior Interior Designer provides services for all assigned IOT&A projects, developing structural interior design (SID) and comprehensive interior design (CID) packages, from concept through procurement and installation, to include furniture fixtures & equipment (FF&E), artwork and signage. This position also mentors and oversees the work of other interior designers.
Provide interior design services for hospital projects developing CID packages, from concept through procurement and installation, to include FF&E, artwork and signage.
Provide oversight, review and coordination of interior design work.
Provide oversight and supervision of vendor installation on project site.
Track resolution completion and technical compliance of all interior design related action items and tasks for the project.
Ensure products and materials comply with MedMILCON and the UFC, and VA standards, including all applicable standards and guidelines.
Provide client and end-user coordination as necessary to ensure safety and regulation compliance (ABA and Joint Commission standards) within departmental and clinical spaces aligns with equipment plans, furniture plans, specifications, and workflow per CONOPS.
Advise leadership and end users with technical advice and recommendations regarding interior design matters including technology advancements, product innovations, adaptability and process improvements.
Provide support and guidance regarding DHA, VA Office of Construction, CFM and/or Military Health System (MHS) goals and objectives regarding patient-centered care, evidence-based design (EBD), and LEED standards.
Act as the design 'vision keeper' regarding project goals and objectives, educating users and maintaining the overall design intent throughout project duration.
Coordinate with Project Manager and Transition Manager through planning, movement, and transition activities, as it relates to interior design and FF&E goals.
Able to work independently with little supervision.
Provide oversight to production team and junior- to mid-level design staff.
Required Skills / Abilities
Ability to collaborate effectively with project management teams in project meetings or individually to correct and prepare documents and products for submission.
Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills with multi-level stakeholders (end-user to leadership).
Problem-solving skills and ability to gather relevant information to define practical problems.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
Attention to detail while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
Ability to perform under pressure and meet customer needs with high-quality documents and products.
Ability to work independently or on a team and interact professionally with project managers, team leaders, and staff.
Willingness to occasionally work past normal hours and attend unscheduled meetings.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in interior design/architecture
NCIDQ or AAHID certification
5 years of healthcare related interior design experience, preferred.
Proficient in CAD and Revit software, required.
Demonstrated experience in healthcare operations and related FF&E, casework/case goods and signage, and ability to translate requirements into design/construction/installation documents.
Experience with VA/DoD medical facilities preferred.
Experience with 3-D computer software, preferred.
Travel Requirements
Travel required approximately once a month for a week’s duration, as project requires.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervision of others.
Serves as mentor to other interior designers.
