Overview Help grow a nationwide movement for truth-first, civil discourse by building and running our volunteer program. As the first dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, you will design the structure, processes, and culture that recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers who expand the Pro-Truth Pledge, deepen partnerships, and strengthen outreach. You will turn passion into measurable impact by recruiting volunteers, helping them have clear roles, providing them with strong coaching, and pursuing data-informed, metrics-based outcomes.
Responsibilities Immediate Priorities (First 3–6 Months)
Design and launch a structured volunteer program with clear roles, policies, workflows, and documentation
Build and manage a recruiting pipeline sourcing volunteers from pledge signers, campuses, civic groups, and online communities
Screen applicants, coordinate interviews, manage references as needed, and lead volunteer orientations and onboarding
Match volunteers to roles based on skills, interests, and availability, ensuring fast and effective placement
Maintain accurate volunteer data, including hours contributed, activities completed, and outcomes achieved
Prepare volunteers for near-term outreach activities such as tabling, canvassing, phone and text banking, and online advocacy
Establish program goals, dashboards, and weekly reporting for volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention
Program Operations & Quality (Ongoing)
Maintain a master volunteer calendar, create rosters and shifts, and ensure coverage for events and campaigns
Develop training materials, SOPs, and scripts for key volunteer roles (e.g., outreach, events, digital engagement)
Coach volunteer team leads and run recurring skills sessions and practice drills
Provide weekly status updates including KPIs, insights, and recommended next steps
Monitor quality through audits, observation, and feedback, and iterate processes to improve effectiveness
Community Building & Retention (Mid-Term Focus)
Build a supportive, inclusive volunteer culture through recognition, meetups, and clear pathways for advancement
Gather feedback regularly, resolve conflicts promptly, and support a positive volunteer experience
Prepare volunteers to engage respectfully with people across the political spectrum
Support outreach to public figures and organizations through well-briefed volunteer teams
Public Representation & Communications (Mid-Term Focus)
Train volunteers to deliver compelling virtual presentations and represent the Pro-Truth Pledge at partner events
Deliver presentations directly when appropriate and model best practices
Support communications and media engagement through coordinated volunteer participation
Campaigns, Outreach & External Impact (Mid- to Long-Term)
Coordinate volunteer-led campaigns to grow Pro-Truth Pledge signatories and organizational partnerships
Use metrics to evaluate outreach channel performance and adjust tactics quickly
Equip volunteers to amplify earned media through letters to the editor, op-eds, and social media engagement
Coordinate rapid-response volunteer actions aligned with timely issues related to disinformation
Philanthropy and Donor Stewardship Support (Mid- to Long-Term)
Organize volunteer thank-you calls, small-dollar fundraising phone banks, and donor follow-ups
Normalize a culture of giving by offering optional, light-touch opportunities for volunteers to become donors, with clear opt-outs
Make gentle, values-aligned giving invitations at natural moments (e.g., onboarding, milestones, campaign kickoffs)
Equip interested volunteers to make peer-to-peer micro-donor asks using approved scripts and ethical guidelines
Track outcomes and integrate results with broader development efforts led by organizational leadership
Administration, Risk & Compliance (Ongoing) You will ensure the program operates responsibly and in alignment with organizational standards.
Qualifications and Skills (in order of importance)
Inspirational, charismatic, motivational, and outgoing to motivate and engage volunteers
Organized, detail-oriented problem solver who initiates action
Two or more years coordinating volunteers or managing community programs, or comparable high-responsibility volunteer experience
Strong recruiting, interviewing, training, and facilitation skills
Experience setting targets, building simple dashboards, and improving processes with data
Comfortable delivering virtual and in-person presentations and leading trainings
Capable of engaging diverse leaders and organizations, including left-leaning and secular groups, while working across partisan divides
Demonstrated commitment to civic engagement and rational discourse
Knowledgeable about US politics
Values truth above ideology
Proficient with Excel or Google Sheets, Google Docs. Desirable to have experience with Trello, Facebook Groups, MailChimp, DonorPerfect
Proficient with Gen AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini
Location
Fully remote position
Desirable but not obligatory to travel to Columbus, Ohio, once a year for a board retreat
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time contract position for 40 hours per week
$23–26 per hour, based on experience
$1 hourly rate increase after a successful 3-month review
Annual merit-based raise based on quantifiable outcomes
