This position is responsible for screening students; implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success; assisting with prevention programs in the classroom; helping students meet performance standards, and providing appropriate services to students; provides administrative support to certified Speech Language Pathologist(s)
Job Tasks Descriptions - Frequency - % of Time
- Collaborate with Speech Language Pathologist to discuss and/or develop individual treatment programs; assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation; assist the SLP during assessment of students, and with bilingual translation during screening and assessments, exclusive of administration and/or interpretation - D - 20%
- Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP and document student performance and report this information to the supervising SLP. - D - 20%
- Consult with teachers, special education paraprofessionals, and parents to gain information and communication as needed to implement school-based interventions. Self-identify as SLPA to families, students, staff, and others. This may be done verbally, in writing, and/or with titles on name badges. - D - 15%
- Program and provide instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices. - W - 10%
- Present primary prevention information to individuals and groups known to be at risk for communication disorders and other appropriate groups; promote early identification and early intervention activities. Advocate for individuals and families to promote and facilitate acceptance and access to full participation in communication across the educational environment. - D - 5%
- Provide services under SLP supervision in another language for individuals who do not speak English and English-language learners. - D - 5%
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records to document activities, provide reliable information, and comply with District, state, and federal requirements. Processes documents and materials (e.g. screening, audio logical paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties. Compiles comprehensive records for the purpose of complying with administrative requirements. - D - 5%
- Attends meetings, workshops, and seminars as needed to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions. Prepares diverse reports, documents, and other written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing clear and cohesive fiscal information, and providing written reference - A - 5%
- Assist managing and scheduling appointments; create documents, e-mails and letters to staff and parents; respond to phone calls from parents and staff; provide administrative support to assigned SLP(s). - W - 5%
- Provide information to emergency response agencies for individuals who have communication and/or swallowing disorders. Exhibit compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and SLPAs' responsibilities. - As needed - 5%

Education and related work experience: High school diploma or equivalent Associate degree from an accredited SLPA program, required 1-3 years' experience, preferred
Licenses, registrations or certifications: Criminal background check required for hire.

Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance expectations and to follow district procedures for absence reporting Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
Materials and equipment operating knowledge: Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc. Operating knowledge of and experience with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc. Operating knowledge of district information technology systems and department-specific software and equipment required within 3 months after entering position
