HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT The Field Applications Engineer is a key technical expert responsible for helping customers successfully deploy and use ConnectDER’s MSA products. In this role, you’ll work closely with installers, partners, and AHJs to troubleshoot issues, provide hands-on and remote support, and ensure installations run smoothly.
We are transforming solar adoption by focusing on a critical part of the installation process, making it faster, simpler, and more scalable. You’ll be on the front lines of this innovation, supporting cutting-edge solar technology and helping installers navigate real-world challenges as the industry grows.
You’ll also serve as a trusted technical resource by educating stakeholders on ConnectDER’s MSA product line, translating complex concepts into clear guidance, and contributing to technical documentation and standards research. If you enjoy solving technical problems and working directly with customers to bring clean energy technology into the field, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
Customer Support & Resolution : Serve as second-tier technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex customer inquiries promptly via multiple channels (phone, email, chat, ticket system), and providing detailed reporting such as root cause analysis.
Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Consulting : Support and engage a wide range of external stakeholders (solar installers, utilities, inspectors, etc.) by translating complex technical issues into actions and strategic product recommendations.
Field Operations & Compliance : Perform in-person field support as needed, evaluate requirements for field wiring and product compatibility, and maintain expertise in utility technical requirements (e.g., service and interconnection rules) to advocate the company's position.
Product & Process Improvement : Collaborate cross-functionally to relay customer concerns and feedback, recommending process improvements and best practices to enhance overall product quality and user experience.
Training & Education : Deliver technical training sessions (virtual and in-person) for installers, partners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
On-Call Availability : Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends and holidays, to support customers.
Qualifications
Required :
NABCEP Certification
A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in customer facing field operations, construction, or related electrical or solar fields.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
Working knowledge of relevant industry standards – NEMA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, UL, etc.
Strong executor who can push through obstacles and maintain quality and integrity.
Proven problem solving, idea generation, and program execution abilities.
Ability to listen and translate feedback into solutions for both customers and the company.
Preferred :
Experience with multiple BESS, PV systems
Experience developing technical training
Licensed electrician
Work Environment / Travel Location: This is a full-time remote position requiring up to 75% travel, mostly within the local region. Occasional travel to Philadelphia, PA is required. Location preference: Candidates based in the San Francisco Bay area are strongly preferred, with close proximity to a major airport to support travel requirements.
Schedule & Compensation Schedule:
Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm PT.
Compensation:
$100,000 - $115,000 annually, plus bonus and equity.
Location & Travel Details Travel up to 75% with local region focus and occasional Philadelphia visits. Remote role with travel expectations noted above.
