Sterling Engineering's client is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Nuclear Steam Supply System engineering organization. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of nuclear innovation, engineering components to the highest industry standards for stability and long-term energy growth. Job Duties:
Lead and manage the preparation and review of engineering specifications, reports, and documentation for NSSS components, systems, and structures. Continuously analyze and revise computer-aided design (CAD) models using Siemens NX to ensure technical aspects meet evolving project needs. Organize and optimize component designs by utilizing results from ASME BPVC Section III evaluations to ensure efficiency and safety. Identify and resolve technical challenges within the design, analysis, and manufacture of pressure vessels and reactor internals. Minimize design errors by ensuring all engineering drawings strictly adhere to ASME Y14 standards and internal best practices. Motivate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engaging in the engineering change control process to ensure well-communicated design decisions. Ensure consistent quality by completing all work under strict ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and NRC guidelines. Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure design intent is maintained throughout the fabrication and manufacturing process. Drive and implement design improvements by reviewing work from other groups to understand how systems and structures interface together. Prepare regular reports and technical documentation for senior management to communicate project status and design compliance. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited institution; a Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred. Minimum of 8 years of relevant working experience in engineering design, with a strong emphasis on personal accountability for design decisions. Proven ability to perform design and analysis of pressure vessels and reactor vessel internals in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III. Strong understanding of engineering software and standards, specifically Siemens NX and ASME Y14 engineering drawing requirements. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with familiarity in stress engineering analysis (design by analysis methodology). Demonstrated ability to lead by example within a nuclear safety culture, maintaining high standards for quality assurance (10 CFR 50 App B, 10 CFR 21). Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and discuss technical design intent with external manufacturing partners.
