Role Overview
Caterpillar is seeking an
Embedded Software Engineer
with strong hands-on experience in
AUTOSAR-based C/C++ development
to support embedded control software for
off-highway machines, powertrain systems, and electrification platforms .
This role focuses on
production-quality embedded software development , AUTOSAR integration, and system-level testing in a collaborative engineering environment.
MATLAB/Simulink experience is a plus; deep expertise is not required—working knowledge is sufficient.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, integrate, and maintain
embedded C/C++ software
for real-time control systems using
AUTOSAR (Classic or Adaptive)
architecture
Support integration of
AUTOSAR Application and BSW layers , including communication stacks such as
CAN, J1939, and LIN
Work with
MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow models
for understanding and integrating model-based control algorithms (expert-level modeling not required)
Participate in
MIL, SIL, and HIL testing
activities in coordination with controls, systems, and validation teams
Perform
software debugging, integration, and root cause analysis
using debuggers, CAN tools, and bench/HIL setups
Ensure compliance with
software requirements, coding standards, and quality processes
Collaborate cross-functionally with
systems, controls, validation, and hardware engineering teams
Participate in
code reviews, design reviews, and technical documentation
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in
Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
2+ years
of hands-on
embedded software development
experience using
C/C++
Practical experience with
AUTOSAR (Classic or Adaptive)
Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink
(model-based design exposure is sufficient)
Experience with
real-time embedded systems , RTOS, or embedded Linux
Knowledge of
CAN, J1939 , and automotive/off-highway diagnostic concepts
Experience with
Git or similar version control systems
Nice to Have
Experience in
off-highway, automotive, powertrain, or electrification domains
Exposure to
Stateflow, code generation, or model integration workflows
Familiarity with
HIL tools and test environments
