Job Summary The Network Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, configuration, integration, and installation of our growing local area network (LAN) and/or global wide area network (WAN). This role provides leadership in technical support and documentation to various departments and users with regard to the global infrastructure. The Network Engineer serves as a liaison to gather network requirements from internal customers, vendors, and other third-party providers. This role will focus on deploying and maintaining Wi-Fi networks, including upgrading to a new Cisco platform, and maintains and configures Forescout NAC and Cisco SDA networks.
Key Responsibilities DESIGN:
Perform design requirements feasibility studies, including adds and moves of existing wireless Perform vendor recommendation/selection and coordination for hardware testing and installations Examine existing wireless infrastructure and recommend changes or additional needs for the customer
BUILD:
Prepare maintenance plans, documentation, and change management coordination for the least impact to the customer Perform necessary maintenance and upgrades to all wireless devices Work in either a lead role or an assisting role during maintenance implementations
IMPROVEMENTS:
Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Method of Procedures (MOP's) Develop wireless network standards for each SSID Work with other teams to test and improve connectivity for all corporate, BYOD, and guest devices, maintaining high levels of security and ease of use Document all content for specialized network designs to be used for training needs Present and/or train on new wireless network topologies, hardware, and technologies to internal teams Lead Root Cause Analysis sessions to achieve better networking practices and improved uptime Determine baseline requirements for our network needs Provide code analysis on existing software, IOS testing, and software recommendations for upgrades Create network lab mockups for error testing Automate repetitive Engineering tasks
ADDITIONAL:
Knowledge of Forescout management, profiling, and maintenance Manage the team's ticket queue and respond on-site to issues Act as 3rd level escalations point of contact for design or other related problems Perform initial deployment of new products and services Monitor capacity and plan for bandwidth additions Establish project priority based on business needs
Education Requirements High school diploma or regional equivalent required Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Network Engineering (at the manager's discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement) CCNA certification required CCDA, CCNP, CCDP preferred; CCIE (R&S, SP, or DC) highly preferred (or equivalent experience); Python PCEP preferred
Required Experience Minimum 5-7 years of recent experience with network design and build-out of LAN/WANs and/or large-scale network retrofits and remediations Experience with network access control (NAC) and software-defined networking technologies, including Forescout and Cisco Software-Defined Access (SDA) Experience with enterprise wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi design, deploying and maintaining Wi-Fi networks, RF optimization, and troubleshooting Experience working in a service provider, datacenter/hosting environment, or large-scale enterprise networks Experience researching, evaluating, and recommending hardware and/or software solutions supporting large-scale deployments and/or remediations against the LAN/WAN Experience working with 3rd party networking vendors, with an understanding of the service/hardware/software portfolios they provide Experience with network service monitoring systems (Spectrum, Solarwinds, and Cisco DNAC)
Required Skills Advanced level experience with most of the following technologies/applications: MPLS, BGP, LDP, QoS, IPv6, OSPF, vPC, STP, DWDM, EVPN, L2VPN, MPLS VPN, L3VPN, FHRP, VLAN, CDP, port-channels, IS-IS, MPLS Inter-AS, VXLAN, DNS, ACL, RADb, Flowspec, RTBH, GitHub, API's, NFV, Hypervisors, virtual switching Multi-vendor experience working with the following platforms: Cisco IOS, ASR 1k (IOS-XE), ASR Company (IOS-XR), Nexus (NX-OS), Arista (EOS), Junos Ability to identify areas of process improvement and provide input and solution options to streamline work Excellent writing, documentation, and communication skills, possessing the ability to communicate well with technical and non-technical peers Customer service-oriented attitude
