Sr. Distinguished Software Engineer – Anti‑Money Laundering (Remote – Eligible)
As a Sr. Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of developers, machine learning experts, product managers and people leaders to drive innovation at multiple levels, optimize business outcomes and create technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions
Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
Serve as an authoritative expert on non‑functional system characteristics such as observability, resiliency and operational excellence
Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community
Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing your time to maximize impact
Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, coaching and strengthening technical expertise
Learn the business of stakeholders and conceive creative technical solutions that solve for their goals
Develop full‑stack applications with a product engineering mindset, spanning frontend and backend ecosystems that balance simplicity with flexibility
Utilize AWS cloud infrastructure across the entire stack (IaaS primitives to PaaS offerings)
Apply best practices for modern engineering operations including observability, SLOs, Continuous Deployment and Incident Management, embracing a “you build it, you run it” mentality
Use frameworks such as Spark, Flink, Kafka and Dagster for large‑scale data architectures and processing
Write high‑quality technical documentation to align partner teams and influence stakeholders
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 9 years of experience in Software Engineering and solution architecture
At least 9 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
At least 9 years of experience in Data architecture
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
10+ years of experience in Software Engineering and solution architecture
3+ years of experience building tools within Anti‑Money Laundering, Know Your Customer, Financial Crime or Fraud detection domains
3+ years of experience implementing AI/ML strategies for anomaly detection, entity resolution in a regulatory environment that requires a high bar for explainability
3+ years of experience implementing Product Observability
