Responsibilities
Field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls
on linear and site‑based construction projects.
Review specifications, permits, and permit conditions, including E&S control and stormwater plans for both site and linear projects.
Prepare and review periodic monitoring reports; submit via paper or electronically as required.
Assist in preparing environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests such as wetland and stream delineation reports, erosion and sediment control plans, and sound studies.
Adhere to the Health & Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and its clients.
Maintain QA/QC standards and follow the Quality Management System procedures of GAI Consultants and client organizations.
Required Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical writing ability.
Proficiency in using electronic location devices (e.g., GPS) to collect project‑related data.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, SQL) and capable of completing reports, databases, and forms.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass required driver screening for GAI vehicles.
Flexible and willing to travel; ability to drive 4–6+ hour distances and stay overnight if required.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
2–4 years of field monitoring experience, specifically E&S control monitoring.
Experience with Environmental Due Diligence (Phase I ESA) site assessments.
Knowledge of NPDES regulations, E&S control guidelines, BMP designs, and construction maintenance.
Experience with environmental review agencies (state/local conservation districts).
Experience in SWPPP, NPDES permit application, or E&S control plan development.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or GIS (ArcGIS).
Knowledge of air compliance and/or spill response planning.
Understanding of Section 401/404 permitting and wetland/stream survey techniques.
Travel
Approximately 75% of the time; travel to project sites and overnight stays expected.
Physical Demands
Walk moderate distances across unimproved terrain and utility rights‑of‑way.
Lift up to 50 pounds.
Recognize and respond to potential hazards during fieldwork.
Successful drug screening required for job offer acceptance.
