Lead Security Installation Specialist – Job Overview Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) seeks a Lead Security Installation Specialist to install Electronic and Technical Security Systems across the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) Desert Southwest (DSW) & Rocky Mountain (RMR) regions. This role upgrades the Physical Access Control System (PACS) at substations, switchyards, and facilities, ensuring deliverables meet code and safety standards.
Travel Requirements
Road Warrior position requiring 75‑90% travel.
Expected travel approximately 90% of the time (travel expenses and per diem applicable).
Travel Locations
DSW Region: Arizona, California, Nevada
Typical Work Schedule Monday – Thursday: 4 × 10-hour days. Fridays typically involve travel to the next location. Overtime may be requested on a paid basis.
Responsibilities
Lead project execution, develop schedules, and ensure compliance with plans.
Assist in scopes of work, procurement, quality control of materials, vendors and subcontractors.
Manage installation teams in remote sites.
Install Electronic and Technical Security Systems per DoD and DoS guidelines.
Read and interpret electrical, electronic, and electro‑mechanical schematics.
Use test equipment such as multimeters and cable testers (e.g., Fluke, Klein, Ideal).
Follow wiring guidelines, read building plans, and reference National Electric Code (NEC) for grounding and safety.
Perform maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of wiring and power circuits.
Work with a wide range of systems, including but not limited to:
DoD and DoS Security Systems and requirements.
Access Control and Intrusion Detection (Lenel, Software House, Milestone).
IP CCTV Surveillance (Milestone).
Mechanical and electromechanical locking systems (electronic strikes, locks, mags, etc.).
Qualifications
U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a DoE customer background check.
Valid driver's license.
Minimum 10 years technical experience installing electronics/electrical systems.
Experience as a team lead managing schedules and personnel.
Extensive experience as a technician with installations of intrusion detection, access control, video surveillance, intercom, mass notification, conduit, low voltage electrical systems.
Proficiency with basic test equipment and preparation of test data and documentation.
Strong verbal communication skills; able to work independently or under limited supervision.
Detail-oriented and self‑motivated, capable of working in a deadline‑driven environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
