They will work directly with clients to ensure high‑quality projects across a variety of areas, including NESC compliance, structural pole modeling, power calculations, GIS design training, field data collection, and client design standards.
Travel This position is remote‑friendly, but candidates must live within a commutable distance of our Michigan support areas to provide local utility customer support. Selected candidates are expected to attend in‑person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory on an as‑needed basis.
Responsibilities
Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as DDS, GDT, GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
Design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida‑Calc, DDS.
Review engineering design packages with clients.
Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow‑up.
Analyze scope of work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards in client design deliverables.
Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments; manage work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
Operate in both field and office settings, including customer‑site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
Qualifications
2+ years of prior relevant experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree).
Relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or a consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
Some prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Proficiency (When Experienced)
Providing estimated costs, development of a Bill of Materials, and calculating the CIAC.
Using MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design.
Experience with work management software and job estimating software.
Familiarity with CAD tools.
