Leidos has an opening for a highly qualified Secret cleared Technical Product Prototype SME for the Command, Control & Battle Management (C2/BM) Business Area. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your experience to support across all-domain large-scale weapon systems, Information Technology Systems, and Command and Control Systems to realize the Department of Defense Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2). In this role you will support an Integrated Product Team (IPT) for the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) Digital Infrastructure (DI) Processing Node (PN) to design and implement solutions that can be delivered at speed, scale, and with the necessary security to deliver operational advantages to the joint warfighter. ABMS is a top modernization priority for the Department of the Air Force and will be the backbone of a network-centric approach to battle management in partnership with all the services across JADC2. This position will work closely with Program Managers, other domain engineers, and Government counterparts across Government and Industry partners. ***The Technical Product Prototype SME must be able to travel 10% of the time*** Primary Responsibilities
Creates "thin line prototypes" and evaluates technology options. Identifies any issues around security, scalability, and ensures the overall solution fits within the DIPN environment. Manages end-to-end prototype lifecycle, from conceptual design and lab setup to software configuration, troubleshooting, and final documentation. Identifies material requirements (hardware, software, supplemental staffing, etc.) for designed solution. Ensures finalized thin-line prototypes are validated by the appropriate teams prior to the start and end of testing. Required Qualifications
BS degree and 12–15 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10–13 years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain. Active Secret security clearance, with ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance. Must be able and willing to travel 10% of the time. Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with customer representatives, domain experts, and other systems engineers in the development of complex DoD systems. DoD 8570 Level 2 certification. Systems of Systems Integration experience (from a design/architecture perspective). Senior level technical consulting experience including interfacing with both internal and external stakeholders. Extensive experience designing detailed full‑stack platform solutions, including trade studies, cost, schedule, and technical aspects. Curious self‑starter that can excel in a prototyping environment to turn customer needs into executable solution candidates. Must be able to consider cost, schedule, technology, and risks. Familiarity with Technologies and Tools
MOSA approaches. CI/CD. Commercial cloud (specifically AWS and Azure), hybrid cloud, edge cloud architectures. LINUX‑based systems. Microsoft ecosystem including Azure and Azure Stack. Microservices, Containerization, Kubernetes & service mesh/routing. Modern network technologies: SDWAN, Leaf/Spine, WIFI, MANet/ROIP, SatComm, Starlink. CSfC Encryption. Cross‑Domain solutions. Modern authorization, ICAM, Zero‑Trust architectures. Data management/synchronization. DDIL and tactical system development. Familiarity with operational U.S. military systems deployed into the tactical echelon, including Tactical and strategic/back‑haul voice and data communications, Tactical Data Links, Sensor integration, Military Commercial cloud integration. Broad experience developing automated deployment and testing of complex systems using Ansible, Terraform, Docker, Rancher, Kubernetes. People leadership experience; mentoring, coaching, and building high‑performing engineering teams. Additional Qualifications / Certifications
Hands‑on experience implementing and supporting MOSA approaches. Hands‑on experience with CI/CD. Hands‑on experience with commercial cloud, hybrid cloud, and edge cloud architectures. Hands‑on experience with Linux‑based systems. Hands‑on experience with the Microsoft ecosystem, Azure, Azure Stack, Microservices, Containerization, Kubernetes, and service mesh/routing. Hands‑on experience with modern network technologies (SDWAN, Leaf/Spine, WIFI, MANet/ROIP, SatComm, Starlink). Hands‑on experience with CSfC Encryption. Hands‑on experience with cross‑domain solutions. Hands‑on experience with modern authorization, ICAM, Zero‑Trust architectures. Hands‑on experience with data management/synchronization. Hands‑on experience with DDIL and tactical system development. Familiarity with enterprise application development and deployment processes. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Kubernetes in DDIL environments. Experience implementing Cloud Service Provider (AWS/Azure) services in DDIL environments. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Service Mesh environments. Extensive Linux development experience. Experience with SAFe agile processes. Prior military or hands‑on experience with tactical military IT systems in production use (e.g., exercises). Familiarity with USAF operational and tactical CONOPS.
