Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5‑5000 kW, including troubleshooting and repair of Automatic Transfer Switches (bypass isolation, closed transition types), performing preventative maintenance (oil and filters), troubleshooting AC and DC circuits, removing and replacing components, performing warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and start‑up/commissioning of new generators and generator systems.
Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair to include ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc.
Perform load bank testing on generator(s) to ensure units are in the proper operating conditions and meet applicable code requirements.
Assist other technicians with large multi‑person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.
Education and Experience
HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.
Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.
Skills and Other Qualifications
Excellent communication skills with ability to give verbal and written reports of job status, repair recommendations, needed equipment/supplies.
Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license; job requires driving long distances and overnight stays in hotels (1–3 nights per week). Company covers hotel costs and provides a meal allowance per guidelines.
Good computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF.
Responsible for vehicle maintenance, parts inventory, and security of company property (cell phone, laptop, specialty tools).
Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations, respond promptly to customer needs, solicit feedback, and meet commitments.
Strong problem‑solving skills in emergency situations or limited resource environments.
Will attend training courses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and other locations as required.
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, continuous improvement, and safety awareness.
Work Conditions
May be required to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 lbs.
Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps using feet, legs, and/or arms.
Seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hands.
Entering text or data on a computer with a keyboard.
Pushing/pulling involving hands, arms, or feet.
Moving on hands and knees or hands and feet into restricted spaces.
Using feet or legs to operate machinery controls such as pedals, buttons, levers, and cranks.
Clarity of vision required for small objects or printing, including computer use.
Sitting for long periods may be required.
Moving in confined spaces may be required.
