*Senior Transport Network Engineer*
*About the Role*
Our client is seeking a Senior Transport Network Engineer to lead the design, deployment, resiliency, and operational strategy of a growing carrier-grade transport and backbone network infrastructure. This role focuses heavily on core transport engineering, optical networking, Layer 2 infrastructure, fiber-aware routing, and network resiliency across a multi-market fiber footprint.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience designing and supporting transport networks, including optical transport systems, POP architecture, transport diversity, testing/turn-up, and SLA-driven network performance. This individual will work closely with internal engineering teams, vendors, and partners to ensure scalable, reliable, and cost-effective network operations.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Design and support carrier-grade transport and backbone network infrastructure across multiple markets.
* Lead transport network architecture efforts involving Layer 2 transport, optical systems, muxing technologies, and backbone connectivity.
* Develop resilient network topologies with an emphasis on redundancy, diversity, uptime, and SLA compliance.
* Design fiber-aware routing strategies that minimize downtime and eliminate single points of failure.
* Support POP design, transport aggregation, interconnection, and backbone expansion initiatives.
* Manage transport network testing, turn-up, validation, and operational readiness activities.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to deploy scalable and cost-effective transport solutions.
* Evaluate transport capacity, bandwidth utilization, and long-term scalability requirements.
* Oversee transport diversity planning and disaster recovery considerations across the network.
* Support vendor selection, budgeting, and cost optimization initiatives related to transport infrastructure.
* Define and maintain engineering standards, transport schemas, and operational best practices.
* Troubleshoot transport-level performance issues and support network reliability initiatives.
* Work cross-functionally with operations, deployment, construction, and network engineering teams to ensure successful execution of network projects.
*Required Qualifications*
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* 5+ years of experience in telecom, ISP, transport, or carrier network engineering environments.
* Strong experience with transport/core networking and Layer 2 infrastructure.
* Hands-on experience with optical transport technologies including muxing, DWDM/CWDM, or related transport systems.
* Strong understanding of fiber routing, network resiliency, redundancy, and diverse path design.
* Experience designing and supporting POP infrastructure and transport interconnectivity.
* Experience with transport network testing, turn-up, and operational validation.
* Familiarity with SLA-driven network environments and uptime requirements.
* Experience managing infrastructure costs, transport budgets, or vendor-related decision making.
* Strong understanding of carrier-grade network operations and backbone transport architecture.
* Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Experience working in FTTH, ISP, carrier, or wholesale fiber environments.
* Experience with Nokia, Ciena, Infinera, Adtran, Juniper, Cisco, or similar transport/networking platforms.
* Familiarity with MPLS, IP transport, or carrier Ethernet environments.
* Experience supporting multi-market network deployments and rapid infrastructure growth initiatives.
