This role is ideal for a strong open-source DBA who has supported production environments, handled critical troubleshooting, and worked on database deployments, migrations, upgrades, replication, performance tuning, and high availability solutions. The primary focus of this role will be on
MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis . MongoDB experience is preferred but not mandatory, as the environment is standardized and MongoDB-related requests are limited. The candidate should have strong experience working across on-premise and AWS environments, including
EC2, RDS MySQL, Aurora MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, S3, and CloudWatch . The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience deploying, migrating, upgrading, and supporting databases in production environments. Experience with blue-green deployment planning for upgrades, production-to-non-production database refreshes, replication management, backup and recovery, and performance tuning is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of database fundamentals such as ACID, normalization, indexing, transactions, locking, stored procedures, and query optimization is required. The candidate should be comfortable working closely with application teams, DevSecOps teams, infrastructure teams, and leadership stakeholders. Strong communication skills, quick decision-making ability, and the capability to troubleshoot production issues under pressure are essential for this role. Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB databases across on-premise and AWS environments. Manage replication solutions for each database based on application requirements to ensure high availability. Support AWS-managed database services including RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, S3, EC2, and CloudWatch. Perform database deployments, migrations, upgrades, and blue-green deployment planning. Execute on-demand database refreshes from production to non-production environments. Develop and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure minimal data loss and downtime. Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance using tools such as CloudWatch, PMM, Datadog, and MonYog. Identify performance bottlenecks and apply necessary tuning, optimization, and fixes. Collaborate with application developers to design efficient schemas, optimize complex queries, and enhance database performance. Understand, tune, and write stored procedures when required during application and leadership discussions. Work closely with DevSecOps teams to ensure timely application of security patches and upgrades. Automate routine DBA tasks and infrastructure setup using Shell scripting, Python, Ansible, and AWS CloudFormation. Support HAProxy and Keepalived configuration and management where required. Perform daily maintenance, health checks, and capacity planning across database environments. Generate ad-hoc reports and provide database insights to internal teams and stakeholders. Provide production troubleshooting support and make fast, informed decisions during critical incidents. Required Skills: Strong hands-on experience with MySQL database administration. Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration. Good working experience with Redis. Exposure to MongoDB is preferred. Strong knowledge of database replication, backup, recovery, and high availability. Experience with AWS EC2, RDS, Aurora MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, S3, and CloudWatch. Strong understanding of ACID, normalization, indexing, transactions, locking, and query optimization. Experience with stored procedures, performance tuning, and schema design. Strong Shell scripting experience. Python scripting experience is preferred. Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and AWS CloudFormation. Good Linux administration skills. Experience with monitoring tools such as PMM, Datadog, MonYog, or CloudWatch. Strong production troubleshooting experience. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with application, infrastructure, DevSecOps, and leadership teams. Preferred Skills: Experience with HAProxy and Keepalived configuration and management. Experience with blue-green deployments for database upgrades. Experience supporting large-scale production database environments. Experience with database migration planning and execution. Experience working in hybrid on-premise and AWS environments.
