Marshall Teacher Residency seeks to support the next generation of teachers in building the skills, mindsets, and practices to lead high-quality classrooms that are student-centered, data-driven, whole child, and anti-racist. The residency is a one year program during which residents are immersed in classrooms while also completing credentialing coursework leading to a California Preliminary Teaching Credential. The residency program was designed in collaboration with the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE), as well as experts and practitioners in the field. The Marshall Teacher Residency was established in 2017 and has continued to grow - we now place Residents in classrooms across California through a wide array of school partners. The Pedagogical Content Knowledge Specialist is responsible for planning and leading a learning series for residents focused on a specific credentialing area - Elementary, English, History, Math, Science, or Spanish. The learning series will support residents to deepen their knowledge about what high quality, values aligned teaching and learning looks like in their credential area. PCK Specialists will report to the Program Director. The ideal candidate is passionate about the values of the Marshall Teacher Residency (student centered, data driven, whole child and anti-racist), has deep pedagogical content expertise, and is excited to work with new teachers in order to support thoughtful content-specific teaching practices. PCK Specialists will have 3 primary responsibilities: Plan and lead the learning series. PCK Specialists will create an intentional scope and sequence with aligned learning materials. Then, PCK Specialists will lead a group of residents through 6-8 sessions focused on introducing new ideas and practices through discussion and modeling, and debriefing the application of those practices in resident classrooms. Provide feedback on resident planning practices in 1:1s or small groups. After the learning series, PCK specialists will meet with residents 1:1 or in a small group to offer feedback on their last project of the year - the Cycle of Inquiry: Full Unit. In this project, residents will plan a full project/unit. PCK Specialists will give feedback to support residents to apply their learning from the PCK Series earlier in the year into their project planning practices. Reflect on the PCK Series. Engage with the Marshall Teacher Residency program director to gather feedback on the PCK Series and reflect on strengths and growth areas. Share written reflections with MTR to capture your reflections, so the program can continue to iterate and improve the PCK Series in the future. The Pedagogical Content Knowledge Specialist will have the following responsibilities: Plan and lead 6-8 sessions from January - March for residents in a specific credentialing area (Elementary, English, History, Math, Science, or Spanish). About 4 sessions will be focused on modeling and discussing content. About 2-4 sessions will be focused on application and debrief to support co-planning, video review, etc. Sessions will take place from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM on Tuesdays via Zoom. Create a scope and sequence and session materials aligned to guidance provided by MTR. Supervisors will share all materials with MTR via Google Drive. MTR will provide objectives, sample session agendas and protocols to support planning. Meet with residents for 1:1 or small group coaching to support residents to apply PCK concepts from winter sessions into the full unit they will plan at the end of the program.
