What You'll do: The SAP Integration Architect is a senior technical role responsible for designing, governing, and overseeing integrations across a complex SAP and enterprise system landscape supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) program. This role ensures SAP integrations are secure, scalable, reliable, and compliant with DoD security, data, and operational requirements. The Integration Architect provides architectural direction, supports delivery teams, and resolves complex integration challenges across development, test, and production environments.
Key Responsibilities
Define and maintain end-to-end SAP integration architecture for SAP-to-SAP and SAP-to-non-SAP systems
Design and govern integration patterns using SAP technologies such as SAP Integration Suite (CPI), PI/PO, IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, APIs, and event-based integrations
Support SAP platforms including S/4HANA, ECC, SuccessFactors, Ariba, and custom SAP solutions
Establish and enforce integration standards, design guidelines, and architectural best practices
Translate business, functional, and system requirements into secure, scalable integration designs
Ensure integrations comply with DoD cybersecurity, data protection, and compliance requirements
Partner with security, infrastructure, and compliance teams to address Authority to Operate (ATO) considerations
Provide architectural oversight during design reviews, development, testing, and deployment
Identify and mitigate integration-related risks involving performance, reliability, data integrity, and security
Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across all environments
Maintain architecture documentation, interface inventories, and data flow diagrams
Evaluate and recommend improvements to integration tools, platforms, and technical approaches
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
Ability to obtain and maintain Secret level security clearance. Preference will be given to candidates who possess an active DOD clearance.
10+ years of SAP technical experience, with significant focus on integration architecture
2+ years Agile software development experience
Proven experience supporting enterprise-scale SAP implementations or sustainment programs
Hands‑on expertise with SAP integration technologies including SAP Integration Suite (CPI), PI/PO, IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, OData, REST/SOAP APIs
Experience integrating SAP with DoD, enterprise, legacy, or third‑party systems
Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and data flow design
Ability to operate effectively in highly regulated, security‑focused environments
This is a remote role with travel as required to support the program (Conferences or meetings – expect less than 10%)
Preferred Qualifications
SAP certification(s) in integration or S/4HANA
Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government programs
Familiarity with DoD security frameworks (e.g., RMF, NIST, ATO processes)
Experience with cloud or hybrid SAP architectures
SAP Experience in one or more of the following areas: Budget, FM, FI, CM, PS, CO, PPS, Payments, MM, SD, PS, SCM, D&S, QM, BTP.

The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At Groundswell, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:
$103,930.00 – $184,078.00 .
