Organization The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. We empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation at the local, state, and national levels.
Position Overview We are seeking legal interns to work with the Litigation Team, within the Activation and Justice department, on a variety of voting rights and social justice issues. Interns may choose to work remotely.
Under the supervision of the legal director, the intern’s work plan includes a mixture of assignments that support the League’s litigation, legal advocacy, and policy work. The focus of the internship will be on the League’s litigation and legal advocacy.
Responsibilities The intern will support the Litigation Team by preparing legal memoranda, attending meetings with League leaders and co-counsel, drafting blogs, and more.
Benefits Internships qualify for academic credit through the student’s school where available.
Fall Legal Internship: Application open April 2, 2024. Deadline: As soon as possible; position open until filled. Start/end dates: August through November/December, depending on school schedules.
Requirements
Current 2L or 3L at an accredited university
Remote internships available; students from outside the DC area encouraged to apply
Demonstrable legal research, analysis, and writing skills; initiative, imagination, versatility; passion for our issues and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
