The VA Providence Healthcare System invites applications for Section Chief of Hematology-Oncology from accomplished hematologist oncologists for a full-time clinical position within a leading New England academic VA environment. The successful candidate will provide expert evaluation, diagnosis, and longitudinal management of hematology and oncology patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, with responsibilities encompassing comprehensive clinical assessment, interpretation of diagnostic studies, palliative care consultation, therapeutic phlebotomy, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, serial tumor assessment, and the selection and administration of chemotherapeutic agents across modalities

Settings:

Clinical privileges may be exercised at the VA Providence Healthcare System, including associated CBOCs, contingent upon adequate staffing and the availability of appropriate equipment. Telemedicine and E Consult services are available to all Credentialed and Privileged Licensed Independent Practitioners.

Core Clinical Responsibilities:

* Evaluates, diagnoses, provides consultation, and medically manages and treats hematology/oncology patients. Privileges include the medical management of general medical conditions encountered during the care of hematology/oncology patients.

* Admits patients to inpatient units or to the appropriate level of care.

* Performs comprehensive history and physical examinations.

* Orders and provides preliminary interpretation of EKGs, imaging studies, and laboratory tests.

* Provides palliative care consultations.

* Selects, initiates, and administers chemotherapeutic agents for cancer treatment via all therapeutic routes.

* Assesses tumor imaging using CT, MRI, PET, and nuclear imaging modalities.

* Conducts serial measurements of tumor mass.

* Performs bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedures.

* Orders therapeutic phlebotomy when clinically indicated.

Work Schedule :

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

U.S. Citizenship, M.D. or D.O., and a full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state.
