Phlebotomist

University Behavioral Center of Orlando, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is committed to providing intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. Our mental health facility provides safe and effective inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds.

Position Summary: The Phlebotomist is responsible for the proper collection and handling of specimens as appropriate for the patient. The Phlebotomist is able to handle all areas of processes and procedures while maintaining a friendly and customer service approach with patients. Accurately and efficiently reports critical results and monitors incoming results from reference labs and logs/communicates results to providers via the Electronic Medical Record.

Job Duties:

  • Draws blood competently, consistently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Identifies the patient using the two unique identifiers described in the hospital's policy before services are provided.
  • Records phlebotomy requisitions on log.
  • Displays courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a Level 2 background investigation.
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy certificate program required.
  • Current certified phlebotomy technician (CPT) certification through National Healthcare Association (NHA) or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • At least 6 months of active phlebotomy and specimen collection experience is required.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to deal with diverse and stress related situations in a calm manner.
  • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Must have good organizational and computer technical skills and have the ability to set priorities.
