Ampere Recruitment is partnering with a leading power semiconductor business to identify an exceptional
Senior Power Applications Engineer . This is a high-impact, technically deep role sitting at the intersection of GaN/Si MOSFET device physics and real-world MHz switching converter design, a genuine opportunity to shape how next-generation power devices reach the market. If you thrive in the lab, can translate device characteristics into compelling application insights, and relish working with both silicon teams and demanding end-customers, this role will feel purpose-built for you. THE OPPORTUNITY Working across cross-functional teams spanning device design, marketing, and field applications, you will own the complete applications lifecycle for high-frequency DC/DC converters from MOSFET parameter specification through prototype validation, competitive benchmarking, and customer engagement. You will be the technical authority bridging device capability and end-application performance, with your work directly influencing product roadmaps and go-to-market strategy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Define and specify critical MOSFET parameters for MHz-range DC/DC converter topologies, working closely with device engineers to align datasheet targets with real application demands. Lead performance validation of power devices in DC/DC converter platforms, characterising switching losses, thermal behaviour, and dynamic response across operating conditions. Build deep customer and application knowledge — understanding how power MOSFETs are deployed across target end-markets and translating those insights back into product development priorities. Design, build, and iterate on evaluation boards to demonstrate device performance in representative converter circuits, creating compelling proof-of-concept platforms for customers and field teams. Conduct rigorous competitive benchmarking against key rivals, producing professional evaluation reports and application notes that clearly articulate differentiated performance. Develop high-fidelity simulation models — including system-level and device-level models — to support design-in activities and accelerate customer adoption. Author high-quality technical collateral including application notes, design guides, and white papers that position the product line as the reference choice in high-frequency applications. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Education MSc in Electrical Engineering as a minimum; PhD in power electronics or semiconductor devices strongly preferred. Technical Expertise Solid grounding in power conversion topologies (synchronous buck, LLC, PSFB and related), power device physics, magnetics design, and control loop fundamentals. Hands-on prototype development experience at MHz switching frequencies — you are as comfortable with a soldering iron as with a simulation tool. Strong lab proficiency: oscilloscopes (including high-bandwidth probing for gate and switching-node measurements), function generators, electronic loads, and calorimetric loss measurement techniques. Practical simulation experience across two or more of: MATLAB/Simulink, SIMetrix, PSpice/LTspice, Ansys (Q3D, Maxwell, or Icepak). Familiarity with GaN or wide-bandgap device characteristics is a clear differentiator. Professional Attributes Confident, clear communicator — able to present complex technical content to both engineering peers and non-technical commercial audiences. Collaborative by nature, with a track record of working effectively across engineering, marketing, and sales functions. Self-motivated and intellectually curious, with the initiative to drive projects forward in a fast-paced, matrixed environment. WHY THIS ROLE MHz DC/DC converter design is one of the most technically demanding and commercially significant areas in power electronics today — driven by AI infrastructure, advanced computing, and next-generation consumer and industrial platforms. This position places you at the forefront of that wave, with the resources, device portfolio, and customer access to do work that genuinely matters. If this
