Role description:
This role focuses on the electronic and electrical aspects of hardware design, ensuring system definitions meet design requirements and compliance standards. You will review designs including circuit boards, layouts, and system interconnects, applying strong engineering knowledge, governance, and oversight to maintain quality and consistency.
You will support design integration for legacy products and technology insertion, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure a cohesive system approach. The role also offers opportunities to lead small teams, contributing to delivery, development, and inclusive team success.
Core duties:
Lead electronic assembly design from concept to service, providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
Design component‑level electronics using CAE tools, supporting volume production, obsolescence management, and technology insertion
Develop circuitry including ADC/DAC conversion, power decoupling, and collaborate on EMC‑compliant PCB layouts and subsystems
Apply rigorous safety and legislative compliance for high‑power and high‑voltage electronic systems and equipment
Deliver design proving, system integration, and proactive defect investigation and resolution to ensure reliable performance
Produce robust technical evidence for safety and compliance, applying expertise in FPGA design, power electronics, and test techniques
You’ll hold a degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject
Essential skills:
Proven experience leading electronic hardware design from concept through to release and in service support
Strong technical leadership capability, including mentoring engineers and providing design authority
Significant experience in design verification, integration, defect resolution, and acceptance evidence
Solid understanding of product safety and integrity, and power electronics and power supply considerations
Experience working with PCB designers on EMC aware layout, component selection, and obsolescence management
FPGA design and implementation
The Engineering Team:
Join the team within Underwater capability delivery, where the Electronics team drives the full lifecycle of electronics, from design and manufacturing to production and in-service support, covering obsolescence management and redesign for manufacturability.
This role focuses on high-integrity electronics development, including VHDL design, coding, analysis, and simulation. The role and team ensure long-term operational success by managing technology insertions and obsolescence while maintaining full compliance with safety legislation and customer requirements.
