ZimZee Recruiting is looking for a Software Engineering Manager for our Aviation and Avionics client in Wichita, Kansas. The manager will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex new product development initiatives within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role oversees the full product lifecycle—from concept through certification, production launch, and ongoing support—while managing engineering teams and ensuring projects meet technical, cost, schedule, and compliance objectives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth in embedded digital/mixed-signal systems with proven leadership experience guiding cross-functional development teams. Skills and Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline 10+ years of experience in Embedded Design and developing digital and mixed-signal embedded products 5+ years of direct engineering team leadership experience Experience managing product development in regulated industries (aerospace, defense, avionics, medical devices, or similar) Demonstrated success leading projects through full lifecycle: concept, design, verification, certification, and production release Experience operating within a manufacturing or production-focused engineering environment Strong familiarity with engineering design tools, ERP systems, and structured project management methodologies Key Responsibilities Lead multiple concurrent product development programs from concept through certification, production rollout, and lifecycle support Manage, mentor, and develop engineering staff while fostering strong team performance and accountability Ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and quality standards across all development activities Drive projects to meet performance, schedule, and cost targets aligned with organizational objectives Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, sales, and customers to support successful product implementation Support certification efforts through coordination with regulatory agencies such as the FAA and related authorities Contribute technical leadership through design reviews, risk mitigation, and evaluation of emerging technologies for future products
