As a Respiratory Therapist at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, you will perform thorough respiratory assessments, develop and implement appropriate therapy plans, and monitor patient responses to treatment. Your daily responsibilities will include administering aerosolized medications, managing oxygen therapy, providing bronchial hygiene and airway clearance techniques, and setting up and managing non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation. You will draw and interpret arterial blood gases, adjust therapy based on clinical findings and established protocols, and communicate clearly with physicians and nurses to ensure safe, coordinated care.
You will play an essential role in emergency situations, responding to Code Blue and Rapid Response events, assisting with airway management, and supporting patients with acute respiratory distress or failure. You will also support chronic pulmonary patients by reinforcing disease management strategies, teaching proper inhaler and device use, and educating patients and families on home care and prevention strategies. Accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record, adherence to infection control standards, and meticulous equipment cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting will be key aspects of your work.
Ottumwa Regional Health Center fosters a compassionate, collaborative culture where Respiratory Therapists are respected members of the care team. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, and case managers to develop individualized care plans and contribute your clinical expertise in rounds and team discussions. The organization values continuous learning, so you can expect opportunities for ongoing professional development, participation in in-service training, and support in maintaining and advancing your credentials.
This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented, calm, and empathetic professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, acute care environment. Flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including some evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required to meet patient care needs. In return, you will join a dedicated team committed to clinical excellence and patient safety, receive competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans, and experience the satisfaction of making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families throughout the Ottumwa community.
The ideal candidate will be a credentialed Respiratory Therapist with a solid foundation in acute and critical care, strong assessment and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues. If you are passionate about respiratory care and looking to grow your career within a supportive, patient-centered environment, Ottumwa Regional Health Center invites you to apply and become part of our mission-driven team.
