We are on the lookout for a talented individual with strong technical expertise in civil engineering to lead the design of electricity substations across the UK.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with various internal teams—ranging from electrical design to environmental specialists—to ensure every project meets the highest standards from concept to completion. You’ll have the chance to work on exciting design frameworks for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and high-profile projects that truly make a difference.
Your Key Responsibilities- Lead the production and review of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports for projects valued between £100K - £20M.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure effective project delivery, providing updates and identifying potential risks.
- Attend progress meetings at client or contractor offices and construction sites.
- Participate in design team meetings to ensure timely and quality information flow.
- Manage design risks to deliver practical, buildable solutions.
- Provide engineering solutions to site-based challenges through the TQ/RFI process.
- Mentor junior team members, offering technical guidance and promoting their professional growth.
- Take charge of your own professional development in line with best practices and legislative changes.
We seek an ambitious civil engineer who possesses the following:
- Proven experience in a design environment for traditional masonry buildings, steel portal frames, and reinforced concrete.
- Experience in client-facing roles, with a knack for managing relationships effectively.
- Ability to lead multiple technical projects simultaneously in a challenging environment.
- Strong communication skills to engage in technical discussions with colleagues and clients alike.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
- A degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field) and working towards Chartered or Incorporated status with a relevant professional body such as ICE.
- Experience in the electricity distribution sector, particularly in substation design and electrical infrastructure.
- Practical experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Civils3D for civil engineering design.
- A full UK driving licence.
