IT Support Engineer — Guildford
Location: Guildford (on-site)
Hours: Approximately 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday (early shift)
Reports to: Head of IT / IT Leadership, with a dotted line to the Senior IT Engineer in London
About the role
You'll be the IT person on the ground in Guildford — the friendly, capable, dependable face our team sees when something's not working. The role is hands-on and varied: one minute you're helping a new starter get set up, the next you're diagnosing a network issue, sorting out a meeting-room AV problem, or upgrading hardware.
Because you'll often be the only IT presence on site, we need someone genuinely self-sufficient. You won't be left on your own — you'll have a senior engineer in London for escalations and a 1st line team in India backing the wider operation — but you should be comfortable owning the Guildford site end-to-end and resolving most things yourself.
It's a great role for someone who likes variety, takes pride in keeping things running smoothly, and wants to grow. The senior engineer in London will be actively building out an internal academy and training programme — you'll have direct access to that, and a clear path to develop into more senior engineering work over time.
What you'll own
- \*\*Day-to-day IT support for the Guildford office\*\* — desk-side help, troubleshooting, and being the first point of contact for anything that needs a person on site.
- \*\*Hardware\*\* — building and configuring laptops and PCs, RAM and storage upgrades, hardware diagnostics, peripherals, and meeting-room equipment.
- \*\*Endpoints, accounts, and access\*\* — new starter setups, leaver processes, account changes, software installs, and standard endpoint troubleshooting.
- \*\*Escalations from the India 1st line team\*\* for anything that needs hands-on attention or local context in Guildford.
- \*\*Site-level operational tasks\*\* — making sure printers work, AV in meeting rooms is reliable, network connectivity is solid, and the office runs smoothly from an IT perspective.
- \*\*Contributing to the wider IT function\*\* — feeding back recurring issues, helping improve documentation, and escalating cleanly to London when something's beyond your scope.
What you'll bring
- Solid 2nd line support experience — confident resolving most issues independently and knowing when to escalate.
- Comfortable with hardware: building, upgrading, and diagnosing laptops and PCs.
- Good working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, Active Directory / Entra ID basics, and standard networking concepts.
- Self-sufficient and proactive — happy to own a site, manage your own time, and get on with things without needing constant direction.
- Strong communicator. You'll be the IT face of the Guildford office, so a calm, friendly, and patient manner with non-technical colleagues matters.
- Curious and growth-minded. You want to keep learning and developing — not just close tickets.
Nice to have
- Any scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, basic Python).
- Exposure to networking equipment, AV systems, or endpoint management tooling.
- Previous experience as the sole IT person on a site.
