Location - Leeds - 2/3 days per week
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join a growing analytics and data team supporting a major transformation programme. This role will work closely with a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data warehouse solutions across a modern Microsoft-based data platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on delivering reliable, well-structured data that supports reporting, analytics, and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Microsoft data technologies • Support the development of a structured data warehouse, contributing to bronze, silver, and gold layer models • Work closely with the Senior Data Engineer to deliver scalable and well-governed data solutions • Develop and optimise SQL-based transformations and data workflows • Integrate data from multiple sources including internal systems, APIs, and external datasets • Support implementation of data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring processes • Assist in delivering curated datasets used for Power BI and reporting solutions • Contribute to documentation, testing, and code reviews • Collaborate with analytics and business teams to understand data requirements
Required Skills & Experience
• Some experience in a data engineering, BI development, or similar data-focused role • Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases • Experience building or supporting data pipelines or ETL processes • Exposure to Microsoft data technologies (e.g. Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, Synapse, or similar) • Understanding of basic data modelling concepts (e.g. star schema, dimensional modelling) • Familiarity with cloud data concepts (data lakes, warehouses, or similar environments) • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment under senior technical guidance • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Nice to Have
• Exposure to Power BI or other BI tools • Basic experience with Python or scripting for data processing • Awareness of medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) • Experience working with APIs or multiple data source types • Understanding of data quality or governance principles

Team & Working Environment • Small, collaborative data team with strong technical leadership • Hybrid working (West Yorkshire, 2–3 days per week in office) • Close working relationship with Senior Data Engineer and analytics stakeholders • Clear opportunity for progression into a more senior engineering role over time
