About the role
Due to continued company growth, we are seeking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding Design team.
You will play a key role in delivering mechanical design solutions for water and wastewater projects as part of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team. Our projects span both infrastructure and non‑infrastructure schemes and cover all stages of delivery, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design for construction.
The role involves developing robust, efficient mechanical solutions for pumping stations, treatment works, mechanical screening, chemical dosing and sludge handling systems, along with the production of high‑quality mechanical design packages to support successful construction delivery.
Location: Warrington (Avove offers flexible hybrid working, with a combination of office and remote working)
Key Responsibilities
Develop high‑quality, value‑for‑money concept and detailed design solutions aligned with project briefs and client requirements.
Deliver projects through feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages, maintaining high technical and quality standards throughout.
Prepare, check and coordinate engineering designs, calculations, drawings, technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates.
Liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders and site teams to ensure clear communication and successful project delivery.
Supervise and support engineers, technicians and graduates, including performance reviews and professional development.
Assist with contract preparation, project planning, programming, resource management and budget monitoring, reporting to the Design Manager.
Support bid preparation, feasibility studies, inspections and site supervision when required.
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM regulations, and adherence to the integrated management system.
Skills & Experience Required
Ability to produce detailed mechanical design outputs for simple process plant.
Proficient in AutoCAD 2D for the production of engineering drawings.
Familiar with pump calculation software and pump selection processes.
Developing knowledge of wastewater and clean water treatment processes.
Experience with wet well pumping stations, screening packages, compactors and related water industry equipment.
Capable of undertaking site surveys and developing practical engineering solutions.
Basic understanding of civil works such as plinths, trenches and duct chambers is desirable.
Able to estimate design effort and contribute to project cost planning.
A proactive team player and effective communicator, able to work independently when required.
Willing to travel as required, including occasional overnight stays.
Full driving licence required.
