*Paramedic Job Description*
*Rapid Emergency Medical Services (Rapid EMS)*
*Position Summary*
Rapid EMS is seeking highly skilled and motivated *Paramedics* to provide advanced life support (ALS) care and safe patient transportation within the Ashland, Kentucky region. Paramedics are responsible for delivering high-quality pre-hospital emergency care, operating advanced medical equipment, and working collaboratively with healthcare providers, dispatch, and emergency response agencies.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and professional manner
* Provide *Advanced Life Support (ALS)* care in accordance with Kentucky protocols and medical direction
* Perform advanced patient assessments, develop treatment plans, and administer appropriate interventions
* Administer medications, start IV/IO access, and perform advanced airway management
* Operate cardiac monitors, interpret ECGs, and perform defibrillation and pacing when indicated
* Safely operate emergency vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws and company policies
* Accurately document all patient care activities in the electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) system
* Communicate effectively with receiving facilities, medical control, and other emergency personnel
* Maintain ambulance readiness, including equipment checks, inventory, and cleanliness
* Participate in training, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives
* Provide leadership and direction to EMT partners and other crew members
*Minimum Qualifications*
* Current *Kentucky Paramedic Certification* (or ability to obtain reciprocity prior to hire)
* Current *National Registry (NREMT-P)* certification preferred
* Current *BLS, ACLS, and PALS* certifications
* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
* Must meet all state and federal requirements for ambulance operation
* Ability to pass background check and drug screening
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Minimum of 1–2 years of paramedic experience in a 911 or high-volume EMS system
* Experience with advanced cardiac care, trauma management, and critical care transport
* Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills
* Familiarity with electronic charting systems (e.g., ESO, ImageTrend, or similar)
*Work Environment & Physical Requirements*
* Ability to lift and move patients up to 150+ lbs with assistance
* Ability to work in high-stress, physically demanding environments
* Exposure to various weather conditions and unpredictable emergency scenes
* Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and climb as required for patient care
*Schedule & Compensation*
* Full-time, part-time, and PRN positions available
* 12-hour and 24-hour shifts available based on operational needs
