Facilities Technician – JLL
What this job involves:
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Facilities Technician to join our team in a role that is essential for the daily operation, upkeep, and long-term reliability of building systems. This position primarily supports vivarium operations, ensuring all equipment, utilities, and facility conditions meet strict compliance, performance, and environmental standards. While not stationed in the vivarium full-time, the majority of your work will take place within that environment, including preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, environmental checks, and vivarium-specific work orders. This hands-on role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, professionalism, and effective collaboration across Facilities and Research departments to maintain operational excellence and compliance.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Conduct regular vivarium walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, operational readiness, and compliance with facility and environmental standards
Complete all preventative and corrective maintenance for vivarium equipment, including HVAC components, air handling units, lighting systems, water supply systems, alarms, monitoring devices, and specialized mechanical systems
Respond promptly to daily maintenance requests and vivarium-specific work orders, including plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general repairs to minimize disruption to research operations
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, pumps, motors, mechanical equipment, and building systems throughout the facility
Execute welding tasks (MIG/TIG/arc) for metal repair, fabrication, equipment reinforcement, and structural support, ensuring safe operation and maintenance of welding equipment
Conduct routine building inspections (interior and exterior), including compliance walkthroughs, safety checks, and IACUC inspections
Carry out general facility upkeep including carpentry, drywall repair, tiling, cabinetry work, and light remodeling to maintain a professional environment
Required Qualifications:
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems
Demonstrated experience performing MIG/TIG/arc welding with the ability to safely and effectively operate welding machines and related tools
Proven ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair welding equipment and select appropriate materials for each job
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to identify cost-effective, durable maintenance solutions
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, work at heights, and stand for extended periods
Clear, professional communication skills for interaction with site managers, research teams, and external vendors
Background in commercial facility maintenance or construction trades (carpentry, tiling, drywall, finishing)
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with controlled environments, air-handling systems, environmental chambers, or regulated research spaces (vivarium experience)
Experience with a CMMS or digital maintenance platform (eMaint, Maximo, FMX, Service Channel, Maintenance Connection, Upkeep, or similar)
Ability to track PM schedules, asset history, inventory, and compliance documentation using maintenance software
Comfort using mobile devices or tablets for inspections, reporting, and real-time updates
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation to resolve urgent facility issues during off-hours
Location: Shrewsbury MA
Work Shift: 7am -3pm, M-F

Estimated compensation for this position:
78,040.00 – 83,200.00 USD per yearThis range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
