Job Description

We are seeking an Subsea Technology Specialist to drive efficiency and innovation in our operational processes through data‑driven solutions and automation. This role is crucial for leveraging technology to optimise workflows, improve decision‑making and ensure data integrity across our operations. In parallel, you will contribute to advancing bp’s subsea technology capabilities by supporting the development and integration of emerging subsea technologies within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027”

Key Accountabilities
  • Contribute to subsea technology development across both physical and digital technologies through research, benchmarking, field trials, technology road‑mapping and proof‑of‑concept/value activities.

  • Work with C&IAM SMEs, P&O SMEs responsible for lower Technical Readiness Level (TRL) subsea and fibre optic technologies.

  • Support subsea technical committees, monthly sprint priorities and delivery of the subsea roadmap.

  • Advance Digital Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) technologies and support deployment of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) in future subsea wells.

  • Act as a focal point within the Marine Autonomy Working Group for low‑cost subsea and marine autonomy solutions.

  • Collaborate with external service providers, partners and academic groups on technology collaborations.

  • Provide subsea technology insights into front‑end project development activities.

Please note: In this position potential offshore travel should be expected.

Experience & Education
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a scientific or engineering subject area (ideally with a high numeracy level)

  • Strong background in a relevant industry domain, such as subsea or projects, with solid offshore exposure.

  • Knowledge of subsea facilities and key technology opportunity areas, including all‑electric SPS, subsea processing, all‑electric wells and marine autonomous systems.

  • Familiarity with technology development processes and a genuine interest in research and innovation.

  • Subsea industry experience and ability to network across the industry

  • Curiosity, an ability to challenge conventional thinking, and openness to evaluating alternative approaches.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, sites and organisations.

  • A proactive, committed attitude, with interest in commercial models and intellectual asset development.
