Carle Health is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Supervisor to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team and support our mission of improving patient health outcomes through safe, effective, and innovative medication management. In this leadership role, the Pharmacy Supervisor oversees day‑to‑day pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and Carle Health policies. The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for supervising pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance feedback to promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The Pharmacy Supervisor coordinates and prioritizes workflow to ensure timely and accurate medication dispensing, sterile and non‑sterile compounding, and medication distribution to inpatient units, clinics, and other care settings. This role monitors medication safety practices, oversees verification processes, and participates in medication-use evaluations, formulary management, and quality improvement initiatives to reduce errors and optimize therapy. The Pharmacy Supervisor collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support evidence-based prescribing, resolve medication-related issues, and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
In alignment with Carle Health’s emphasis on innovation and patient safety, the Pharmacy Supervisor helps implement clinical protocols, standard operating procedures, and best practices related to antimicrobial stewardship, high‑risk medications, hazardous drug handling, and transitions of care. The role also supports the integration and optimization of pharmacy technology, including electronic health records, computerized provider order entry, bar‑code medication administration, and automated dispensing systems, ensuring staff are trained and systems are used effectively and safely.
The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for staff scheduling, workload balancing, and alignment of resources with patient care needs, while maintaining compliance with licensure, training, and continuing education requirements. The role participates in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of new staff, as well as supporting student and resident learning experiences when applicable. The Pharmacy Supervisor monitors key performance indicators such as turnaround times, inventory accuracy, regulatory inspection results, and medication error trends, and leads corrective action plans when needed.
This position requires strong clinical knowledge of pharmacotherapy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead in a fast‑paced, patient‑focused environment. The Pharmacy Supervisor must demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality improvement and patient safety. The ideal candidate embraces Carle Health’s values of innovation, teamwork, and excellence, and is motivated to contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives that enhance medication-use processes and overall quality of care. Employees in this role can expect meaningful opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, and active participation in projects that advance Carle Health’s mission and support the health of the communities we serve.
