Occupational Therapist | Acute | Temporary

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a Temporary Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Care team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide patient-centered occupational therapy services to individuals admitted to our hospital with a wide range of medical, surgical, neurological, and orthopedic conditions. Working in a fast-paced acute setting, you will complete thorough evaluations, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and deliver goal-directed interventions focused on maximizing independence, safety, and functional recovery during hospitalization and discharge planning. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure coordinated, high-quality care aligned with Avera Health’s mission of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship. The Temporary Occupational Therapist will perform functional assessments of activities of daily living, cognition, mobility, and upper extremity function; recommend and train in the use of adaptive equipment; and provide patient and family education to support a safe transition home or to the next level of care. You will document all services in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner, adhere to regulatory and professional standards, and participate in team huddles and care conferences as needed.
