Catholic Health is currently seeking Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeons in Long Island, New York. Catholic Health is a fully integrated health system serving the communities of Long Island, NY. This position will allow the right candidate to launch their thoracic surgery career within a structured, supportive environment under the leadership of Dr. Abbas E. Abbas, System Chair of Thoracic Surgery. This role is designed to provide strong mentorship, progressive autonomy, and a clear pathway to long-term career growth.
Position Overview
This is an early-career position focused on transition to independent practice through guided clinical experience, mentorship, and skill development. The surgeon will work under the supervision of the Department Chair and other senior faculty.
Base Salary: $550K+
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality thoracic surgical care including all aspects of pulmonary, mediastinal and foregut surgery with appropriate supervision
Gradually assume increasing clinical responsibility with progressive autonomy
Participate in multidisciplinary care teams and clinical innovation efforts
Engage in professional development and advanced surgical training opportunities
Mentorship & Supervision
Direct mentorship from the Chair of Thoracic Surgery (Dr. Abbas)
Structured support from senior thoracic surgeons within the department
Ongoing feedback, skills development, and career pathway planning
Leadership Structure
Reports directly to the Chair of Thoracic Surgery
Works under the supervision of senior thoracic surgeons
Integrated into a collaborative, team-based department
Qualifications
Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Training: Completion of an accredited Thoracic Surgery Fellowship (or current fellow) – Robotics experience preferred
Certification: ABTS Board certified or Board eligible
Licensure: Unrestricted New York State medical license and DEA (or eligibility)
Experience: Fellowship training with demonstrated clinical competence
