Are you a pension professional looking for a new challenge?
Join the OMIA team as Pension Specialist.
The Pension Specialist will work with OMIA senior management to administer a Defined Benefit and a Defined Contribution Pension Plan. Each Plan is registered in Ontario. You will oversee the daily administration of the plans and with work plan actuaries and record keepers. You will ensure the pension plan is transactionally compliant and all regulatory deadlines are met. You will draft year end financial reports and work with the OMIA Treasurer and external auditor to prepare financial statements.
Experience & Skills
At least 5 years' experience in a high-level Pension Administration role with expertise in:
- Pension Administration;
- Comprehensive knowledge of pension legislation in Ontario;
- Knowledge of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans;
- Knowledge of current and emerging risks and trends as they relate to the pension industry;
- Knowledge of Financial statements and reporting standards;
- Knowledge or risk management principles, methods and ability to identify risks;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Effective communication skills, including strong written, verbal and presentation skills;
- Excellent relationship building skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse group and manage complex relationships.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
You will work closely with senior management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Researching new requirements in pension environment;
- Monitoring and administering both a Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Pension Plan;
- Working with OMIA’s Benefits Committee on pension related issues and reporting;
- Working with OMIAs actuaries and record keeper;
- Managing OMIA’s business relationships with key professional services advisory partners;
- Answering member companies on pension questions;
- Presenting to members on pension related matters;
- Maintaining reference material in an electronic environment.

In considering candidates, the following educational background or equivalent employment experience will be of benefit:
- 3 year post-secondary qualification or equivalent education
- 5 years of experience administering defined benefit pension plan
- Certified Pension Plan Administration Certificate or Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation
