A Day in the Life Of:
The Principal Test Automation Engineer will lead the planning, design, implementation, and qualification of automated and semi‑automated test systems to verify functional and performance requirements of medical device systems and subsystems.
Responsibilities:
- Partners closely with systems, software, hardware, and algorithm engineers to translate product requirements into robust, scalable test strategies for physiologic monitoring technologies such as pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, EEG based systems, and other sensing technologies.
- Leads development of test architecture, automation frameworks, instrumentation, and data analysis, while also providing technical leadership and responsibility for the overall health, reliability, and continuous improvement of test systems.
- Define and execute comprehensive test strategies that verify functional, performance, reliability, and system‑level requirements across the product lifecycle.
- Serve as the technical authority for assigned test systems, ensuring robustness, maintainability, scalability, and long‑term sustainability.
- Guide design‑for‑testability improvements by influencing product and architecture decisions early in development.
- Develop and maintain test automation frameworks, instrumentation interfaces, simulators, and data analysis tools to enable repeatable and high‑quality testing.
- Analyze complex test data, identify trends and failure modes, and provide clear technical insights and recommendations to development and leadership teams.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers on test design, automation best practices, and problem‑solving approaches.
- Ensure test systems and processes comply with applicable regulatory, quality, and safety standards for medical devices.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Requires a Bachelors degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience.
- Deep expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining automated and semi‑automated test systems for embedded, electromechanical, or software driven products.
- Strong proficiency in test automation programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar).
- Experience with automated test frameworks such as the Robot Framework or LabView desired.
- Proven ability to define test architecture, automation frameworks, and long‑term test system strategies for complex products or platforms.
- Extensive experience translating system and subsystem requirements into comprehensive test strategies and coverage.
- Hands‑on experience with test equipment, instrumentation, simulators, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong skills in test data analysis, failure mode identification, and communication of technical insights and risk assessments.
- Experience influencing design for testability and product architecture decisions through early and continuous engagement with development teams.
- Familiarity with medical device development processes, quality systems, and regulatory expectations for verification and validation.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including mentoring engineers, leading technical reviews, and driving standardization and best practices without direct people management responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts, trade‑offs, and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
Benefits & Compensation:
Compensation range in Ireland: 78,320.00 EUR – 117,480.00 EUR. The position is eligible for the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). xcfaprz A flexible benefits package is also offered.
