To excel in this role, you will need technical leadership, exceptional communication skills, experience in data analysis, and strong technical abilities to gather required data from various sources for requirements gathering. You will engage with a diverse array of business partners, including actuarial teams, finance departments, and IT partners across the enterprise.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities
Prototype high impact innovations, catering to changing business needs
Possess functional knowledge and skills reflective of a competent practitioner with the ability to deliver on work of highest technical complexity
Consult with functional management in the analysis of short and long-range business requirements and recommend innovations which anticipate the future impact of changing business needs
Work closely with client management to identify and specify complex business requirements and processes for diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g., Cloud, host based, distributed systems, client server), software, hardware, technologies and tools
Provide highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies that assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives
Review the disaster recovery plan to ensure that new systems promote uninterrupted system operation
Coordinate activities with cross‑functional IT unit stakeholders (e.g., database, operations, telecommunications, technical support, etc.)
Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost‑effective solution for the system design
Formulate logical statements of business problems and devise, test and implement efficient, cost‑effective application program solutions (e.g., codes and/or reuses existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrate purchased solutions)
Prepare charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, utilizing various business, scientific, engineering and mathematical techniques. Analyze existing system and programming logic to provide more efficient machine operations or to identify difficulties, and revise the logic and procedures involved as necessary
Act as the primary technical point of contact for interaction with other cross‑functional units and teams
Foster a positive work environment by exemplifying cultural values and encouraging others to promote collaboration, accountability, diversity and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 5 or more years’ experience in IT systems analysis and application program development, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
5+ years ETL / Data Integration / Big Data / Cloud (AWS) Technologies experience
AWS / Big Data Technologies certification preferred
3+ years of Python
3+ years of Linux
2+ years in Snowflake data warehousing, data pipelines and automation
3+ years in Cloud Data modernization (Ingestion, Curation, Data Domains, Data Products)
Experience with version control tools, CI/CD pipeline and DevOps tools like GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus and uDeploy
Experience with Artificial Intelligence, AI certifications preferred
Strong data warehouse applications knowledge in financial/insurance domain preferred
Strong Global Specialty Insurance knowledge preferred
Knowledge of data modeling
Experience with Big Data Distributed Processing (HDFS, Hive, Spark, PySpark), AWS, Data Analytical languages Python, R preferred
Strong critical thinking skills and analytical ability
Proficient in industry standard querying tools
Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a timeline‑driven environment
Knowledge or familiarity with dimensional database structure
Excellent facilitation, requirements elicitation and data analysis skills
Experience with mentoring and leading other Data Engineers
Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives, and on‑the‑spot recognition.
