Environmental Technologist

Aughinish Alumina Ltd, situated on a 1,300-acre site on the Shannon Estuary, is one of the leading industrial plants in Ireland. It is the largest Alumina Refinery in Europe, producing the primary raw material for the production of aluminium. The company also has a 160MW Combined Heat and Power Plant. Aughinish has a history of continuous improvement and innovation and is now considered to be a world leader in the industry.

Working as a member of the environmental team, this position will provide the successful candidate with experience in all aspects of the environmental management of large manufacturing facility in a highly regulated chemical process industry. The site operates under a number of licenses and permits from the EPA and other regulatory authorities in relation to industrial emissions, greenhouse gases, port maintenance dredging, and radiological protection. The site’s Environmental Management System is certified to the ISO 14001 standard.

• Sampling and analysis of all environmental emissions according to AAL’s Industrial Emissions Licence (IEL) requirements
  
• Carry out additional sampling and analysis of environmental aspects as required
  
• Implementing Laboratory Quality Management Systems, such as quality control checks and calibrations
  
• Manage and maintain the suite of sampling equipment and locations in sound working order
  
• Preparation of reports to EPA and plant personnel
  
• Liaise with plant personnel on environmental matters
  
• Maintenance of the extensive environmental documentation database
  
• Liaison with the EPA and external environmental contractors
  
• Liaise with research facilities on relevant research programs
  
• Conducting regular environmental audits against licence, internal and ISO14001 requirements
  
• Monitoring, control and reporting on relevant pilot plant facilities
  

Flexibility will be required as other duties outside those described above may be assigned from time to time. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the employee to work from our site during standard business hours. Hybrid work options are not available for this role.

• Environmental science/engineering/management degree or equivalent
  
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an environmental related role
  
• Familiarisation with environmental legislation
