Carle Health is seeking a detail-oriented Pulmonary Function Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will play a key part in evaluating lung function and supporting accurate diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory and pulmonary conditions. Working within a collaborative, patient-centered environment, you will perform a broad range of pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, and bronchial challenge testing, following established protocols and best practices. The Pulmonary Function Technologist is responsible for preparing patients for testing, clearly explaining procedures, and obtaining relevant medical history to ensure safe and appropriate testing. You will monitor patients carefully throughout each procedure, recognize signs of distress, and respond according to clinical and safety guidelines. Using advanced diagnostic equipment, you will perform daily calibration, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting to ensure accurate and reliable results, while adhering to infection prevention and equipment care standards. This position requires meticulous attention to detail in collecting, recording, and validating test data. You will document results in the electronic medical record, perform preliminary review and quality checks of test outputs, and collaborate with pulmonologists and other clinicians who interpret and act on the findings. You will be expected to follow departmental policies, regulatory standards, and quality assurance procedures to support patient safety, data integrity, and consistent test performance. As part of Carle Health, you will work in a culture that values innovation, teamwork, and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You will collaborate daily with physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other members of the care team to provide coordinated, community-focused care. The role offers opportunities for ongoing professional development, including education on new testing methodologies, participation in competency assessments, and involvement in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills in pulmonary diagnostics or respiratory care, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients of diverse ages and backgrounds. A background in respiratory therapy, pulmonary function testing, or a related area in healthcare is strongly preferred. Certification in pulmonary function technology or respiratory therapy is desirable, and candidates must be comfortable working in a hospital or outpatient clinical environment where patient safety, quality care, and confidentiality are paramount.
