Job Title: Data Centre Shift Lead Technician
Location: Dublin Campus
Commence Date: Immediate
Work Times: 12-hour shift (days and nights)
Purpose of Job
The Shift Lead Technician will be part of the operational team supporting the Critical environment 24/7/365. They will manage the shift team responsible for monitoring, escalation, emergency response, and operation of critical services within the data centre. The Shift Lead will report directly to the Campus Operations Manager and oversee the central facilities operation centre, ensuring all aspects of the facility are covered during their shift.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact on the shift for the client and CBRE management.
- Monitor all critical systems across campus from the central facilities operation centre and ensure incidents are escalated and responded to according to Runbook and SLA metrics.
- Supervise the central facilities operation centre and the shift team during shift rotations.
- Respond to abnormal conditions in critical facility systems using escalation tools and EOPs.
- Collaborate with Shift Supervisors to stabilize affected systems during incident response, acting as the incident owner and closing incidents upon satisfactory completion.
- Provide detailed status reports during incidents through agreed channels.
- Maintain up-to-date incident notifications and close them correctly following site procedures.
- Stay informed of changes and improvement initiatives led by CBRE and the client.
- Be conversant with the facility Emergency Response Plan, EOPs, and act as liaison with the security team during emergencies.
- Prepare a detailed shift handover report to the incoming shift team, supported by verbal handover.
- Maintain full awareness of all activities in conjunction with the day tech team.
- Train in the operation of all critical facility systems across campus as outlined in the site‑specific CBRE training syllabus (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Monitoring, Fire and Controls).
- Assist the day tech team in shutting down/start‑ups of equipment per site operational procedures to support all PM/CM activities (MOP) carried out by the PM Team or vendors.
- Ensure shift team members use the CMMS correctly to report all facility‑related tasks and accurately record technician time.
- Mentor team members and foster a culture of continuous professional development, building a lessons‑learned and feedback repository with fellow shift leads and supervisors.
- Lead and manage team technical and personal development, completing appraisals within contract and CBRE policy constraints; report progress to CBRE management.
- Author, peer‑review, approve, or carry out periodic reviews of all operational documentation (including EOPs, drills, etc.) issued by the Technical Manager.
- Conduct a shift audit of all critical systems within the central facilities operation centre (BMS, EPMS, Fireworks, etc.) at each shift’s end.
- Mentor the shift team through all training requirements on site.
- Carry out drills and complete toolbox talks as per KPI tracker.
- Adhere to all quality, health & safety, and environmental policies on site.
- Maintain a clean and tidy central facilities operation centre and all work areas at all times.
- Dress in the CBRE uniform, including appropriate PPE, and present the professional CBRE image to clients and visitors at all times.
- Lead onboarding and training of new staff members on your shift.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover as required, keeping flexible working patterns to support operational demands.
Qualifications & Experience
- Fully verifiable trade qualification in a relevant engineering discipline plus additional relevant training.
- Experience with low‑voltage power distribution and loading; prior data centre or similar lab experience is desirable.
- Excellent understanding and experience of electrical and mechanical systems in a data centre environment, including feeders, transformers, generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS systems, battery banks, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air handling units, CRAC units, fire alarm and suppression systems.
- Experience with complex automatic control equipment such as relay logic, PLCs, building management systems, and their integration with data centre infrastructure.
- Experience with medium‑voltage distribution systems, associated switchgear, and protection equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of speaking intelligently and effectively with clients and contractors.
- Computer literate; ability to compile and submit monthly/annual reports and monitor/trend operational characteristics (load, capacity, environmental conditions). Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Fast learner who can maximise training and development programmes.
- Availability to work shifts and provide emergency cover as required.
